Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a recent address, recalled a poignant interaction with a young pony ride operator named Adil from Jammu and Kashmir, using it to highlight Pakistan’s alleged attempts to incite communal violence in India.
Speaking during a public gathering, PM Modi said, “A few years ago, I had met a young man named Adil during my visit to Kashmir. He was a pony ride operator, full of dreams and love for the country. That brief conversation still remains with me. Adil had a deep understanding of how much peace and development matter in the Valley.”
The Prime Minister brought up this memory while discussing the transformative changes taking place in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. He praised the people of the region for embracing peace and pushing back against extremism.

Modi also accused Pakistan of attempting to exploit communal tensions and destabilize India through misinformation and proxy violence. “Our neighbour wanted to light the fire of riots across India, especially during sensitive times. But the people of India, including in the Valley, showed remarkable restraint and unity. Pakistan’s plans failed because they underestimated our people’s love for harmony,” PM Modi stated.
He credited the Indian security forces and intelligence agencies for preventing potential large-scale disruptions. He also applauded the youth of Kashmir for rejecting separatist ideologies and choosing the path of progress.
The story of Adil, the pony ride operator, symbolized a broader narrative Modi sought to project — one of inclusive development and national integration, even in historically conflict-ridden areas. “Adil is not just a name. He represents thousands of young Kashmiris who now dream of becoming doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs — not stone-pelters,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come in the backdrop of ongoing efforts to boost tourism, employment, and investment in Jammu and Kashmir, part of the government’s strategy to integrate the region more closely with the national mainstream.
In closing, PM Modi reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of every Indian, regardless of religion or region, and vowed to continue exposing and countering external forces trying to destabilize the country.
